Separation & Divorce

GOALS

Going through separation and divorce is never an easy process but I make it simple by helping each parent create a ‘Parenting Plan.’ The parenting plan is a document that lists mutually-agreeable policies and agreements that will prevent you from needing to constantly communicate and negotiate all of the life situations that will inevitably arise in your newly-restructured family. For example, parenting plans I commonly create include agreements around parenting time schedules, holidays and vacation time-splitting, agreements on childrens’ medical and dental issues, and discussing emotional or behavioral issues as they might arise in the children. My parenting plans are tailored to each family based off their unique needs.

An important outcome of our work is that parents restructure their communication so that they can more safely interact with each other as co-parents. Building skills in relating to one another in a new way is an ongoing goal of our work as we manage any individual issues that might arise around co-parenting.

I also provide ongoing co-parent counseling to make sure the parenting plan always accommodates the constantly-evolving needs of the family as it grows and changes.

OUR WORK

Trying to determine the care for children after separation and divorce can be difficult and painful. The intense feelings that parents experience often complicate the negotiation and planning around co-parenting arrangements.  As we focus on creating a parenting plan that works for each parent, we must also understand and learn to manage the emotions that each parent is feeling.

My 30 years of experience in learning about and understanding the deep complexities of separation and divorce assists me in identifying the dynamics, dilemmas and problems of both parents and children, as I help parents at both the practical and psychological level. I am both strategic and empathetic in pulling together the needs of the children and parents to better understand their dynamics and create an effective parenting plan.

Parents who are stressed, afraid, and angry often feel that it will be difficult to find a solution that meets everyone's expectations, and my primary focus is to always help parents sort out their issues and create a plan that benefits the children and the restructured family.
